The SUVE Conjugation System (Spanish Universal Verb Endings)
(No need to know whether a verb is -ar, ir, OR -er. No need to know if a verb is regular or irregular)
1 singular system for conjugating all verbs (except 3), and all tenses (except 1).
SUVE refers to the Spanish Universal Verb Endings that are applied to all verbs (with the exceptions already mentioned).
The SUVE forms (verb endings) are: -S, -A/-E, -N, -MOS, -IS, and R.
The corresponding subjects they represent are as follows:
System summary:
Yo (I) → ending unpredictable
Tú (You) → S
Hablarás = you will speak
él/ella/Vd. → A (comía = he/she used to eat) OR E (vive = he/she lives)
Ellos/Ellas/Vds. → N
Aman = they/you all love
Nosotros → MOS
Tenemos = we have
Vosotros → IS
Queréis = you all want
VerbName (infinitive) → always ends in R
abandonar = to abandon
Spanish sentences often omit the subjects (yo, tú, él, ella, etc.) even though the verb endings are still there — and those endings tell you who the subject is.
Conjugation subjects:
Yo (I)
Tú (you)
Él / Ella / Vd. (he / she / you)
Ellos / Vds. (they / you all)
Nosotros (we)
Vosotros (you all – Spain)
Spanish normally leaves out the subject word, because the ending already shows who is doing the action.
ENGLISH → SPANISH
I speak well → Hablo bien
(Yo is omitted; the ending -o tells us “I”)
They taste delicious → Saben deliciosas
(Ellos is omitted; the ending -n tells us “they”)
We have ten → Tenemos diez
(Nosotros is omitted; the ending -mos tells us “we”)
Even when you do NOT see yo/tú/él/etc., you still must use the ending that matches the implied subject.
